American Medical Certification Association. (AMCA) for healthcare professionals.
Patient Care Technician
Patient Care Technician: Provides basic care, helps patients with activities of daily living, transports patients, and cleans treatment areas. Most Patient Care Technicians work in nursing and residential care facilities and in hospitals.
Nursing Assistants
Nursing Assistants: Also known as Nursing Aides, provide basic care and help with activities of daily living.
*Important: AMCA’s Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) should not be confused with a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). AMCA’s NAC certification is governed by the AMCA Certification Board. CNA credentials are issued by the state, governed by state boards, and therefore require a state-sanctioned training program and a state certification exam.
Mental Health Technician
Mental Health Technician: Cares for individuals with mental or emotional conditions or disabilities, following the instructions of physicians or other health practitioners. A Mental Health Technician may monitor patients’ physical and emotional well-being and report to medical staff, or participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs, help with personal hygiene, and administer oral or injectable medications.
